Community News Update - April 25, 2022

The city of Toronto is currently planning a Cultural Districts Program to help communities thrive and be of benefit to maintaining the historic character of neighbourhoods such as Little Jamaica.

There are a lot of questions about these policies. To address this Bryan Keshen, CEO of Reena, will moderate a discussion on April 28th from 7:30-8:30 pm to bring awareness to the needs of individuals with disabilities and how they can enhance their own inclusion within the Toronto Cultural Districts Program.

We now have 1,332 people hospitalized with Covid, while ICU numbers remain steady at 150.  Yet another reminder that this pandemic is far from over. We need to continue to demand real action from the government, and remember how earlier pandemic responses let down the most vulnerable.

With Covid infections estimated at over 100,000 per day, we badly need expanded PCR testing and an acknowledgement that the lifting of mask mandates were premature. While the government announced that they are expanding availability of PCR tests today, their actions continue to be too-little, too-late.

Today, Ontario reported 655 patients in hospital with COVID-19, including 158 in ICUs. These numbers seem to be increasing slightly, which is cause for concern. New cases remain above where they were at the peak of the fourth wave, so it is important that everyone remain cautious.
