Community News Update - January 20, 2023

Dear Community,

I want to sincerely thank the many front line care workers who have taken the time to write to me about the ongoing health care crisis and the recent move toward privatization introduced by the Ford government. As always, my inbox remains open to all community members who wish to share their thoughts on any issue!

If you are a person working on the front lines of our health care crisis: I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! Please reply to this email and share your thoughts about Ford's plan to privatize. We need to start listening to the folks who know this situation best!

If you were one of the many folks who generously donated to The Beeton Cupboard at St. Michael & All Angels this holiday season, please write to Alex at [email protected] with your full name and address to receive your tax receipt!

Our friends at Sending Sunshine have reached out to request help from you! These lovely folks are working to combat social isolation and loneliness among senior community members by providing them with handwritten cards.

If you've got a stamp to spare, consider writing an uplifting note to an elder Ontarian to spread a little of our famous Toronto-St. Paul's joy!

DesignTO art exhibitions will be coming to Yonge and St Clair from today to January 29!

Learn more about the artists and plan your visits here!

Folks, we're one week away from our town hall! January 26th at 7 pm I will be hosting an online town hall with Ottawa Centre MPP Joel Harden to discuss the private-public partnership (P3) model's effects on our efforts to build light rail transit (LRT) systems in Ottawa and Toronto.

This is nowhere near a new issue for our community, and I've spoken out about the problems with the Crosstown LRT in the past:

On Thursday, MPP Harden and I will be joined by ATU members, TTC riders, community members, and business representatives to discuss the ongoing impact this situation is having on many neighborhoods.

If you want to join us, be sure to RSVP here!

The Ontario pre-budget consultation is fast approaching! Register by 12 PM on February 7 at 12 PM. Hearings will be held on Zoom in Barrie and Toronto. Hearing date Feb 13 – must be registered to attend. Contact [email protected] for more info! You can also use this link.

There are any number of things folks can speak to at these meetings: concerns around housing, affordability crisis, food insecurity, the public health care crisis, environmental issues...the list goes on!

When it comes to budgetary issues: EVERY VOICE MATTERS! Make sure yours is HEARD!

The spectacular Holy Blossom Temple Out of the Cold Community Dinner commenced last night and will be running EVERY THURSDAY at 5PM until March 30th at 1950 Bathurst St (entrance on Dewbourne Avenue)! Spread the word to folks in need!!!! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who make services like this possible!

See here for more info:

Doors open each Thursday at 5PM and close at 7PM.

In Solidarity,

Jill Andrew

Community News Update - June 21, 2024

Dear Community,

Join me and Save Ontario's Science Centre on Sunday in Wells Hill Park to speak out against Doug Ford's scheme to move the Ontario Science Centre to Ontario Place, which has now led to the surprise closure of the Science Centre.

This benefits no one. Not the people of Toronto who are losing a beloved insitution or the 400+ employees of the OSC, many of whom will lose their jobs.

Meet us in Wells Hill Park at St Clair and Bathurst to tell Doug Ford NO.
