Community News Update - April 12, 2023
Dear Community,
And just like that our long weekend is over! I hope everyone had the opportunity to spend time with friends and loved ones.
It's feeling like summer in the city this week! Wear your SPF, put on a sun hat, and get some Vitamin D the good old fashioned way! We've got some beautiful parks and green spaces here in St. Paul's, and it's always a joy seeing them bustling with activity on days like these!
Today is International Day of Pink - a day we stand up against the bullying and harassment that targets folks from the 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. Though together we've made great strides, we've also witnessed and experienced a despairing increase in violence against our kin - in the streets and in institutions.
The purpose of today is one we carry with us every day: to create a more inclusive world. We do this by questioning institutionalized norms, by standing up to discrimination, by demanding more of our leaders and allies.
Today, I stand in solidarity with every elder who made this world possible, and with every 2SLGBTQIA+ individual continuing in that fight today to ensure the generations to come can usher in a world that is safe for and inclusive of all identities.
Last week, we welcomed members of the Naval Reserve to Queen's Park and thanked them for their dedicated service. It was truly an honour to meet these hardworking folks!
On Saturday, April 21, the Fairbank Village BIA will be hosting a community cleanup event from 11AM - 1PM! Meet outside their office at 1988 Eglinton Ave W to get involved!
Low income individuals may be interested in making use of The Stop's Free Tax Clinic, which is open from March 1 to April 28! See below for more information!
In Solidarity,
Jill Andrew
